Equatorial Guinea takes part in III International Conference on Tourism and Culture

A senior delegation from the Ministry for Culture, Tourism and Craft promotion, made up of the minister Rufino Ndong Esono Nchama, and the Director general for Tourism Regulation, Josué Esono Edú Corredor, took part in the III International Conference on Tourism and Culture, under the banner “For the benefit of all”, which began on 3rd December in the Turkish city of Istanbul, and will continue until Wednesday 5th.

The senior level meeting, organised by UNESCO and the World Tourism Organisation (both United Nations agencies), had opening speeches by the Minister for Culture from the republic of Turkey, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy; the General Secretary of the WTO, Zurab Shakasvili; and the President of the Republic of Malta, H. E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, who highlighted the important work of making culture a differentiating, quality factor in tourism. A tourism that should not only be more responsible and ethical, but also inclusive and integrating the enhancement of cultural aspects of peoples, in order to be able to preserve the essence of countries, whose tourists will benefit from learning about this cultural diversity.

During the morning session, the Minister for Culture, during the Ministerial Panel section, was able to respond to questions put by the BBC presenter, Rajan Datar, who asked about the measures the Government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea was taking regarding its strategy to attract tourists to our country.

The minister clarified that the State had been working in recent years to raise awareness about our country, above all through conference tourism. He also said that the Government had significant new ideas for eliminating barriers of access to the country, such as the online visa, which will allow tourism to reach more remote areas, so that prosperity also reaches these communities, where there is still huge cultural wealth and a more traditional way of life, which deserves to be preserved.
